49ers News: Coaching Staff Updates

Good morning folks, and welcome to the weekend (insert sunglasses-wearing-smug-guy emoji here)! It’s been something of a noisy week for the team, despite the part of the year the 49ers are currently situated at. Days after firing strength and conditioning coach Ray Wright, the team decided it was also time to purge the head of athletic training, Jeff Ferguson, as it had been decided that the best course of action was to rebuild the protocols and standards of health and performance within the organization from the ground up. The corporate jargon hits on all the right buzzwords, but it remains to be seen if new blood has any effect whatsoever on the random nature of injury in professional sports.

Perhaps the bigger story, however, is that the Denver Broncos, under new head coach Vic Fangio, sought to interview 49ers QB coach Rich Scangarello for their vacant offensive coordinator position, and were blocked from doing so. It seems that his work with Garoppolo and Mullens has brought some positive attention his way, from the exterior, as well as the interior. Although positional coaches are often easy to overlook unless they’re on either extreme of the talent spectrum, it feels kind of nice to see one of our own being recognized as having the talent to earn a promotion in the NFL, as well as having the 49ers show a selfish unwillingness to let him walk.
